Abhijit Paul has been appointed as the General Manager – Legal & Corporate Affairs at Berger Paints India. In his new role, Abhijit will be responsible for steering the company’s legal strategy, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance functions. His appointment marks a significant addition to Berger Paints India’s leadership team as the company continues to strengthen its governance framework and operational integrity across markets. With over two decades of experience in corporate law, compliance, and governance, Abhijit brings a wealth of expertise in managing complex legal matters across sectors including FMCG, real estate, and media. Before joining Berger Paints, he served as Head of Department – Legal & Compliance (General Manager) at Vedant Fashions Limited (Manyavar-Mohey), where he successfully led the legal and compliance function for nearly seven years. During his tenure, he was instrumental in building robust policies, ensuring adherence to statutory obligations, and providing strategic counsel to leadership on regulatory and corporate affairs matters.
Prior to Vedant Fashions, Abhijit held senior legal roles at Godrej Properties Limited, Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd. (The Times Group), and Polar Industries Ltd. At Godrej Properties, he led the legal and secretarial operations for the Eastern Region, overseeing land acquisition, regulatory compliance, and litigation management. His stint with the Times Group saw him heading the Corporate Legal & Secretarial Department for Eastern India, where he managed a diverse portfolio of cases spanning defamation, labour disputes, media laws, and insolvency matters. His ability to manage multi-stakeholder legal environments and deliver strategic outcomes made him a trusted advisor in every organization he served.
Abhijit began his professional journey as an Advocate at the Calcutta High Court and City Civil Court, where he gained hands-on experience in litigation and legal advisory across civil, corporate, and regulatory matters. This strong foundation in advocacy shaped his pragmatic approach to corporate legal strategy—balancing compliance with business agility. Over the years, he has built a reputation for his deep legal acumen, ethical governance practices, and a solution-oriented leadership style that aligns law with enterprise growth.
