Ovais Sarmad, the former Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has been appointed to the STEER World advisory board. With this appointment, STEER World aims to further strengthen its sustainability vision and accelerate its mission toward driving innovation in engineering with an emphasis on environmental responsibility.
Sarmad brings over three decades of experience in global governance, migration, and climate policy. During his leadership at the UNFCCC, he played a key role in supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement and actively participated in climate negotiations from COP23 to COP27. His contributions were instrumental in the creation and operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund.
Beyond his UNFCCC role, Sarmad has served in several influential capacities, including as Vice Chair of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Steering Committee, Advisory Specialist with AlphaSights, and Sustainability Advisor to Granules India Limited. He is also engaged as an independent advisor, offering expertise in environmental policy, organizational transformation, and multilateral negotiations to global institutions and businesses.
