Mithrasekhar Reddy Gundre has been appointed as Deputy General Manager – Downstream Processing Laboratory at Intas Pharmaceuticals. With this appointment, he brings over two decades of scientific, operational, and leadership excellence across biologics, biosimilars, vaccines, and large-scale downstream processing. His strong command over process development, analytical workflows, and advanced scale-up makes him a valuable addition to Intas’ innovation and manufacturing ecosystem. His career reflects consistent contributions to high-value biologics pipelines and the successful execution of complex technical programs across multiple global-scale pharmaceutical organisations.

In his most recent role as Deputy General Manager at Zydus Group, Mithrasekhar led vaccine process development initiatives, ensuring robust downstream strategies and seamless analytical integration. His ability to align scientific direction with operational requirements helped strengthen the group’s biologics readiness and contributed to multiple pipeline advancements. Prior to this, he served as Principal Scientist – M3 at Lupin, where he was responsible for downstream development of monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, and critical in-process analytics. His technical proficiency in process validation, manufacturing scale-up, and characterization added strong capabilities to Lupin’s biologics programs.

Before joining Lupin, he held senior leadership positions at Biocon Biologics as Senior Manager, Technology Transfer Lead, and Manufacturing Manager. During this period, he directed technology transfer for biologics and biosimilars, ensuring smooth transition of processes from development to commercial manufacturing. His contributions extended to operational quality management systems and end-to-end manufacturing oversight. Mithrasekhar’s strategic guidance enabled efficient execution of scale-up operations, strengthened CMC frameworks, and reinforced Biocon’s biologics manufacturing excellence.

His largest body of work was at Zydus Group, where he spent a decade progressing through roles from Associate Research Scientist to Senior Scientist. During this period, he drove major downstream development projects, led process characterization, and managed scale-ups up to 5000L. His leadership in technology transfer supported multiple successful GMP manufacturing campaigns, and he played a pivotal role in launching four biologics products in India, including monoclonal antibodies and hormone-based therapies. This phase of his career established him as a key contributor to India’s biologics landscape.

Mithrasekhar began his career with hands-on manufacturing and development experience at Wockhardt and Bharat Biotech, where he worked on insulin glargine scale-up, EPO manufacturing, large-volume insulin production, and early-stage vaccine development. This foundation gave him deep process insight, operational discipline, and a holistic understanding of biologics manufacturing. With his appointment at Intas Pharmaceuticals, he is poised to elevate downstream processing capabilities, strengthen biologics development pipelines, and contribute significantly to innovation, scale-up, and scientific excellence within the organisation.
