Saumya Sajib has been appointed as Senior Manager – Liability Underwriting at HDFC ERGO General Insurance, based in Ahmedabad, marking an important step forward in her specialised underwriting career. This appointment reflects HDFC ERGO’s continued focus on strengthening its liability underwriting leadership amid growing complexity across commercial and financial risk landscapes.
In her new role, Saumya will oversee underwriting and risk assessment across key liability insurance lines, including Commercial General Liability, Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers (D&O), Cyber Liability, and Product Liability. She will play a critical role in ensuring underwriting discipline, regulatory compliance, portfolio profitability, and alignment with the organisation’s defined risk appetite, while supporting sustainable growth across liability portfolios.
Before joining HDFC ERGO, Saumya was associated with ICICI Lombard General Insurance as Chief Manager – Liability Lines Underwriting, where she led casualty and financial lines underwriting for the Gujarat territory. In this role, she was responsible for complex risk evaluations, portfolio management, and supporting distribution teams with technically sound underwriting decisions across diverse industries.
Earlier in her career, Saumya built strong domain expertise at Howden Insurance Brokers India, where she progressed from Management Trainee to Manager. During her tenure, she gained hands-on experience in liability placements, renewals, corporate risk structuring, and client advisory, developing a deep understanding of both underwriting and broking perspectives within liability insurance.
Her professional foundation also includes early exposure through an internship with Apollo Munich Health Insurance, adding breadth to her understanding of insurance operations. With her well-rounded experience across underwriting, broking, and corporate risk solutions, Saumya’s appointment is expected to further strengthen HDFC ERGO’s liability underwriting capabilities in an increasingly complex and evolving insurance market.
